LOOKY...LOOKY...

So, I'm a bit hooked on TWITTER. I know, I know...it's crazy, it's insane, it's a waste of time and brain cells! BUT...it's also the most hysterical, legal fun you can have if you have the right mind-set. Less than a month ago I was followed by a Ms. Kelsye Nelson...@Kelsye and it's been wonderful. Aside from her informative tips (she runs @Writer.ly), she also writes herself. So I was super excited when she announced the release of her new book...SMART GIRL, DUMB LOVE. I immediately 1 clicked and prepared to enjoy.

* 5 STARS to SMART GIRL, DUMB LOVE!!!

I didn't know what to expect, this was my first foray into the mind of Kelsye Nelson but I was soo surprised. This is a collection of 3 short stories and they were great! I read through this on my commute home from work on Saturday and as well as being amused myself I was the cause for some amusement on the bus. 3 stories, 3 different women and 3 honest looks into the way we behave.

First...FIVE THINGS YOU'LL HATE ABOUT ME

"At eight, I am ready. At 8:01, I am nervous. At 8:02, I'm concerned. 8:05, I send a text and ask where you are right now. At 8:10, I've got my jacket on, my bag over my shoulder, and am sitting on the couch not doing anything else but tapping my foot and waiting."

I laughed my ass off! This short was spectacular! Honest and snarky and just plain great. A woman listing her faults/rules to the prospective man in her life. She's brutally honest and it's sooo true! I wish there was more, I wish we could see his reaction. FABULOUS!

Second...SURPRISE and DISBELIEF

"I wanted someone to worship me."
"There is no greater indignity than to be raped by a poet."
"Carl said, Marry me. Yes I said, but not now."

Wow! Just WOW! It started and I wasn't sure what to expect. Then it grabbed my heart. We do very bad things to ourselves. We look for more, when we have more than enough. We try to fix what you can't and mostly we choose to be blind. It's a beautiful story of lovers that hurt and are hurt. A woman whose fear of imperfection makes her blind to the perfect imperfection of a love that's always been hers. I so WISH, I so PRAY and BEG that Kelsye would turn this short into a full length novel. Their journey would be such a wonderful story. It was beautiful and so not enough!

Third...GIRL on a HOT TIN ROOF

"This is my home. This is my home."

I'm not sure what to say. This was the shortest, most focused of all the stories. It's all about a girl, all about an insecurity and all about the other main character...an apartment. It's a great start and would most definitely be a good jump off point for a longer story. This was familiar in it's theme; I don't know a woman who hasn't dealt with this problem, and yet very personal and to the point with it's focus on her doubt. I did like it, but I really wish there was more! Just more, I wish I could see a peek into her blossoming from her burst of strength.

Any which way you put it, this was a great dip into the works of Kelsye Nelson! I can't wait for more. The bonus story; OSAKA at NIGHT just wet my appetite for more. Thanks to the TWITTER gods for bringing me to @Kelsye and to her funny, witty work. Now go...go buy...go enjoy and go spread the word on this cool chic!
